Alongsider Church — Alongsider is a community of house churches coming together to worship as one body on the first and third Sundays monthly at 9:30 a.m. The church meets in the cafeteria at WD Richards Elementary School. Park in the back by the tennis courts and enter through door 24. On the second and fourth Sundays, house churches meet in homes across Columbus for a conversational study of the past sermon and deeper fellowship.

Asbury United Methodist Church — Asbury offers a traditional service at 8:45 a.m. and a contemporary service at 11 a.m. Nursery is available for both services. Kid’s church is offered only at the 11 a.m. service. Sunday school classes meet at 10 a.m. Asbury offers a variety of classes and group studies at various times during the week. Asbury will host a Christmas Worship Concert on Sunday, Dec. 17, at 8:45 & 11 a.m. Come join us as we celebrate Christmas through music.

Longest Night Service: All are invited to a special service designed for those who may be experiencing grief and loss during the holidays. Join us on Thursday, Dec. 21, at 6 p.m. Kids church will be available during the service.

Christmas Eve Morning Worship Service will be at 10:30 a.m. The church will gather together at 6:30 p.m. for a Christmas Organ Meditation by Ed Bruenjes, followed by a Candlelight Christmas Eve Service at 7 p.m.

Central Heights Church of God — The church offers 9:30 a.m. Sunday School for all ages and worship services at 10:30 a.m. The message will be led by Pastor Jason Johnson. Children’s church takes place during service and a nursery is available.

Columbus Baptist Church — The church offers worship services on Sunday at 10:30 a.m. and 6:30 p.m. A teen service is offered at 6:30 p.m. Sunday school for all ages meets at 9:30 a.m.

Wednesday Bible study, Kids Club and teens meet at 6:30 p.m. There are various small group events weekly.

East Columbus Christian Church — East Columbus Christian Church is open for in-person worship on Sunday mornings with a blended worship service at 10 a.m. The church also has online worship available through Facebook and YouTube.

Sunday morning Bible study is at 9 a.m. Youth meet at the church from 6 to 7:30 p.m., and children’s ministry meets through Zoom on Wednesdays at 5 p.m.

East Columbus United Methodist Church — Sunday morning worship service begins at 9 a.m. The morning blended worship service includes praise music and traditional hymns. Children receive a special message during children’s moment and are dismissed for children’s church during the service. Sunday school begins at 10:10 a.m. with classes for all age groups. Holy Communion is served on the first Sunday of each month.

Faith Lutheran Church — Worship each Sunday begins at 9 a.m. in person and livestreamed on the church’s Facebook page. Most Sundays, Sunday school and an adult Bible study are offered from 10:15 to 11 a.m. Wednesday evening worship is offered at 6:30 p.m. each week.

Preschool classes continue throughout the school year and the congregation offers an afterschool program each school day from 3 to 6 p.m. with busing from Southside Elementary.

First Presbyterian Church — On Dec. 10, the Second Sunday of Advent this year will focus on Peace. Pastor Felipe Martinez will peach a sermon entitled “God is Near: Work for Peace” focused on Mark 1:14-28.

First United Methodist Church — On the second Sunday of Advent, Dec. 10, at 10 a.m., the Rev. Howard Boles will deliver the message, “Comfort Amid the Brokenness.” The scripture will be Mark 13:24-37. The church encourages those attending in person to arrive 10 minutes before the service. Child care will be available from 9:45 a.m. until the end of the 10 a.m. service. Sunday school for children ages 4-12 will start at 9 a.m.

For those unable to attend the in-person service or not yet comfortable meeting in person, service livestreams will be available on the church Facebook page and the church YouTube channel (FUMC Columbus). Videos will be available on the church website for later viewing as well.

During Advent, the church invites you to participate in reading a devotion written by Dr. Kate Bowler from the Duke Divinity School. The church will have some copies available at the church, but you can also download the devotion free of charge by visiting her website at katebowler.com.

On Wednesday, Dec. 13 at 7 p.m., the church will host a Longest Night Service. This special service is for those who may be grieving or have a heaviness of heart during the holiday season. We invite you to join us for remembrance and reflection through music, words of comfort and shared acts of compassion.

On Wednesday, Dec. 13, 6:30 p.m., the church continues its observance of Advent with the Service of Evening Prayer. The message is, “Who is Melchizedek? (the most important biblical character you know little or nothing about”). A fellowship dinner at 5:45 p.m. precedes the service.

Mount Pleasant Christian Union Church — The church invites the community to visit the little 150-year-old country church for a 10:30 a.m. Sunday service. The church preaches out of the King James Bible and sings out of hymn books. The church is Bible-based, Christ-centered, and spirit-led.

Petersville United Methodist Church — On Dec. 10, the second Sunday of Advent, Pastor Rebecca Milne will deliver her message, “Being Present with Peace,” at the 9 a.m. worship service. She will focus on what it means to be a gift of nonanxious presence for those who need it most. Scriptures will come from Isaiah 40:1-11, 2 Peter 3:8-15a, and Mark 1:1-8.

Kathy Bush will serve as song and worship leader and Teresa Covert will present the children’s message. The service can be found on Facebook each week.

On Dec. 17, financial commitment cards are due, and may be dropped into the Offering plate.

Christmas Eve service will take place Sunday, Dec. 24, at 9 a.m. at the church. There will not be an evening service.

Sandy Hook United Methodist Church — Sandy Hook United Methodist Church gathers weekly for in-person and online worship. The church will offer one combined service at 11 a.m. on Sunday, Dec. 10, the second Sunday of Advent. As the church celebrates “Peace,” Pastor Paul Dazet will bring a message about “Imagine Peace: Embracing God’s Shalom” as part of the Advent sermon series. May this Advent season be a time of profound transformation, where we awaken the dreamers within us and “Imagine” a world where hope, peace, joy, and love reign supreme.

St. Paul Lutheran Church — The second Sunday in Advent will be celebrated at the 8 and 10:45 a.m. services Sunday with Pastor Doug Bauman presenting the message “Comfort My People” based on Isaiah 40:1-11.

Christian fellowship begins at 9:10 a.m. with Christian education classes for all ages beginning at 9:30 a.m. Pastor Doug Bauman will lead the adult Bible class hour in a discussion “Connected to Christ in Worship” in the fellowship room. Deaconess Taylor Fickenscher will lead a class entitled, “The Faith in Art” in the conference room. Senior youth will study “God’s Plan for Your Life” led by Dave and Jen Probst. Pastor Dan Fickenscher will lead the Spanish worship service in the fellowship room at 10:45 a.m. with Spanish Bible study at 12:15 p.m.

Radio worship service is every Sunday at 9:30 a.m., and “The Lutheran Hour” is every Sunday at 7 p.m., both on WYGS 91.1 FM.

Advent Service will be held Wednesday at 6:45 p.m. with Pastor Dan Fickenscher presenting the message, “Lucia”.

Christmas Family Fun night begins Sunday at 3 p.m. with caroling to shut-ins followed by a meal and gingerbread house decorating.

As part of Latino Outreach, Pastor Fickenscher will conduct a four-week Spanish Bible study on Tuesday, Dec. 12, at 6 p.m. at Peace Lutheran Church, 330 W. Tipton St. in Seymour.

The Wednesday morning adult Bible classes meet in the fellowship room at 9 a.m. studying the book of Acts. The evening Bible Class resumes in January.

Euchre and game night will be held Friday, Dec. 15 in the Fellowship Room at 6 p.m. ending with a cookie exchange. Bring 2 dozen cookies to share. Las Posadas service will be held Saturday, Dec. 16, at 5 p.m. with a fiesta to follow in the Fellowship Room.
