Exhibit Columbus seeks feedback on ‘Public By Design’

Leaders of the 2023 Exhibit Columbus architectural exhibition “Public By Design” want to know what people thought of the most recently completed cycle that included 13 installations spread over a mile-and-a-half of downtown.

So they’re asking people to fill out an online survey offering feedback on everything from how often they visited downtown during the exhibition to if or how the exhibition impacted their view of downtown.

This iteration of Exhibit Columbus featured more public input than ever, with designers not only soliciting face-to-face inspiration months before launching their designs, but also seeking ideas via online submissions and more. Via the new Miller Prize Conversations, it also featured architects reporting back to the public on what they did with people’s suggestions and how those ideas were incorporated into their eventual installation.

This edition also saw previous good feedback on the installation layout’s walkability — a significant factor to drawing people to nearly any downtown, according to national New York City consultant James Lima, who has worked with city leaders.

Exhibit Columbus leaders, who have enjoyed substantial community involvement and betterment efforts since launching, also want to know if people have been inspired in any way to take action here because of Exhibit Columbus’ inspiration.

“Help us build the fifth cycle even better,” wrote Richard McCoy in an email to supporters and residents. “… I’m grateful for the support we receive to produce this work from many people in Columbus, across the state, and the country. We have a generous community that powers this organization.”

McCoy is executive director of Landmark Columbus Foundation, the umbrella agency of Exhibit Columbus.
