Columbus Mayor-elect Mary Ferdon and 10 other city officials elected in this year’s municipal election are set to be sworn into office on New Year’s Day.

Ferdon, along with Columbus Clerk-Treasurer Luann Welmer and nine Columbus City Council members, will take their oaths of office on Jan. 1.

The swearing-in ceremony will be held 11:00 am in the Cal Brand Meeting Hall at Columbus City Hall. The event is open to the public, city officials said.

The council members who will be sworn in include:

District 1: Christopher Bartels (R)

District 2: Elaine Hilber (D)

District 3: Jerone Wood (D)

District 4: Frank Miller (R)

District 5: Kent Anderson (R)

District 6: Jay Foyst (R)

At-large: Tom Dell (D)

At-large: Josh Burnett (R)

At-large: Grace Kestler (D)

The ceremony will mark the start of the first city administration since Columbus adopted “second-class” status and expanded the number of council seats.

Currently, there are five city council districts and two at-large council members. Starting Jan. 1, there will be six city council districts and three at-large members.

Currently, the Republicans will hold a 5-4 majority on the incoming city council.

However, a lawsuit challenging the candidacy of District 6 council member-elect Jay Foyst is still pending before a special judge.

The outcome of the lawsuit could change the results of the election and give the Democrats a 5-4 majority on the city council.
