COLUMBUS
Dorothy L. Linn, 78, of Columbus, passed away peacefully at her home Sunday, January 7, 2024.
Mrs. Linn was born February 15, 1945, in Columbus, the daughter of Alvin H. and Selma L. Urbahns Meier.
She married Gilbert E. Linn March 2, 1975; he preceded her in death May 12, 2002.
To say Dorothy was a unique individual would be an understatement. In her 78 years of life, she made a lasting impact on those around her. She was a sympathetic ear, sounding board and great provider of advice; perfectly suited to her career as a hairdresser and salon owner. Her quick wit and sharp sense of humor were enjoyed by many and she told it like it was…good, bad and otherwise (a trait that was appreciated sometimes more than others). Her sass was apparent in the mid 70’s as she blazed around town in her bright yellow Porche 914.
Dorothy (or “Dot” as she was known to some), was not one to simply “sit around”. Beyond her career, she and her husband Gil renovated a number of homes and rental properties for themselves. When they weren’t working on their own properties, they were always ready to lend a hand to friends and family with their projects. This wasn’t anything “advertised” or boasted about; she was simply a rock available to many people over the years.
Her strong sense of family was evident as she was typically a driving force and event coordinator whether gathering for holidays, special occasions or “just because”. She was also an active presence in her family’s life, loving her roles as grandmother and great-aunt.
She had a variety of interests, including her love if politics, gardening, crafting, camping and fishing in addition to being a Top-Notch Cook and Ace Euchre player!
Dorothy always had an uncanny knack for selecting truly unique, personal gifts for family and friends. It was usually a game or toy of some sort, very thoughtfully selected. She certainly wasn’t one to give a simple tie or gift card.
Dorothy was a caring and compassionate woman who will be dearly missed by many.
She was a force. Goodbye, special lady.
Survivors include her stepson, Mark (Beth) Linn of Tennessee; brother, Paul A. Meier of Columbus; nephews Dwayne (Deb) Meier; Bob (Bethany) Meier; niece, Krystal (Steve) Muir; 3 grandchildren: Lorelei (Nick) Steen, Zachary (Mary Kate) Linn and Alexis Linn, 7 great nieces and nephews: Kyle Battin, Justin (Kate Greeman) Meier, Keegan Hill, Breanna Meier, Darian (Josh Elliott) Hill, Johnathon (Trystan Harden) Meier and Nicholas Meier, 2 great-grandchildren, 8 great-great nieces and nephews and a motley crew of dearly loved extended family.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Alvin &Selma Meier; brother, Milton Meier; a stepson, Bob Linn; and her beloved husband, Gilbert Linn.
