Weather update: Wind chill advisory issued for Saturday night, snow and wind forecast

2 p.m. update

Bartholomew County Emergency Management is warning that snow and blowing snow is possible Saturday night.

Pockets of light snow and west winds up to 25 mph with gusts to 35 mph are forecast, which will result in slick road conditions and lower visibility.

7 a.m. update

COLUMBUS, Ind. — Bartholomew County Emergency Management is urging caution as a wind chill advisory is set to go into effect from 7 p.m. Saturday night to 1 p.m. Sunday.

Wind chills as low as 25 below zero are forecast by the National Weather Service in central, east central, north central, south central, southeast, southwest and west central Indiana.

These wind chills could cause frostbite on exposed skin in as little as 30 minutes.

Motorists should use caution while traveling outside. Wear appropriate clothing, a
hat, and gloves.

A wind advisory is continuing until 9 a.m. Saturday morning, with west winds at 20 to 30 mph with gusts up to 45 mph.

Counties included in the advisory are Shelby, Rush, Brown, Bartholomew, Decatur, Lawrence, Jackson and Jennings.

Power outages are possible with this level of wind gusts.

Warming centers

Brighter Days will be open from 6 p.m. to 8 a.m. daily.
The Community Engagement Center will be open 8 a.m. to 6 p.m. each day and will also be open this Saturday and Sunday so that their hours mesh with Brighter Days.
