The owner of Snappy Tomato Pizza offered to vacate The Commons if the city accepted a settlement offer. Larken & Co. LLC offered to pay the city about $18,000 to settle its debt in exchange for release of all liability in the rental agreement, then close and move out by Jan. 31.

1999

A baby was on hand at The Commons, where Bartholomew County Treasurer Sue Paris introduced herself as Republican candidate for mayor of Columbus. Paris’ 8-week-old great-niece, Emma Johnson, was the first baby she kissed after outlining her campaign platform.

1974

Despite a perfect 11-0 record, the Columbus North Bull Dogs dropped two spots in the Indiana boys high school basketball poll, placing 11th in the United Press International weekly rankings.
