Local residents enjoyed listening to musician Billy Jonas’ whimsical instruments during a free Old National Bank First Fridays for Families concert at The Commons. Dubbed the Dr. Seuss of the musical world, Jonas created the “maBOOMba,” which sounds like a tuba and a marimba.

1999

Residents in the Bartholomew and Johnson County area witnessed a flyover of the 159th Aviation Brigade from Camp Atterbury, which had previously flown over Fort Campbell, Ky. The Blackhawk helicopters would detect simulated enemy fire from the ground and veer to the left or right.

1974

Former Columbus High School football player Terry Schmidt was selected in the fifth round of the National Football League player draft. A Ball State University senior and three-year letterman as a defensive safety, Schmidt was drafted by the New Orleans Saints, the 121st player selected.
