Scrapbook local sports roundup: Club Olympia takes fourth at ChaseStrong Invite

Thirteen Club Olympia swimmers made it to the finals in the 11-12 and 13-and-over events at the ChaseStrong Invite. Club Olympia placed fourth out of 20 teams with 1,093 points at last weekend’s ChaseStrong Invitational at Center Grove High School.

Club Olympia swimmers achieved best times in more than 55% of their swims. New time standards achieved for the upcoming March championship meets include one Speedo Sectional cut for a senior level national meet, 10 Age Group State cuts and 12 Divisional cuts.

The 38 Club Olympia swimmers won five events, placed second in seven events and were third nine times. They also placed in the top ten 76 times.

Leading the way was Aahan Gupta, who scored 181 points, winning four events, placing second five times and third once. Gupta achieved best times in nine of his 10 events, getting his 9th Age Group State cut in the 10U Boys 100-yard breaststroke.

Camila Mejia Murguia scored 121 points to lead the girls, placing second, fourth and sixth in one 11-12 Girls event each; as well as third in three events and fifth in two events. She achieved personal-best times in six of her eight events and had two new Age Group State cuts, giving her eight events to choose from for the six permissible events at State.

Rebeca Mejia Murguia scored 99 points, placing in the top 10 in seven of her eight 11-12 Girls events, getting two Age Group State cuts and six personal-best times.

Chad Pendleton earned three new Age Group State cuts, five out of six best times, one second-place finish, two third- and fourth-place finishes, and a fifth-place finish to score 93 points in just two days of the three-day competition.

Max Tempest picked up three 10&U Boys Divisional cuts, five personal-best times and scored 84 points.

Josh Pendleton, who only competed on the first two days, won the 13-and-over Boys 500 freestyle, scored 78 points, and achieved a Speedo Sectional bonus and a 14-year-old Age Group State cut.

Lexi Miller scored 75 points and achieved personal-best times in four of her eight 11-12 Girls events.

Vivan Shah swam personal-best times in eight of his 10 10U Boys events and scored 73 points.

Shreyan Kulkarni landed an Age Group State cut, three personal records and scored 69 points.

Cali Gray achieved personal-best times in all 10 of her 10U Girls events, a new Divisional cut and scored 49 points.

Arash Thokade swam five personal-best times to earn a 10U Boys Divisional cut and score 43 points.

Aashka Shah earned three personal records and scored 33 points in her 11-12 Girls events.

Kay Payne, swimming on only two days of the three-day meet, achieved personal-best times in three of her five 11-12 Girls events and scored 30 points.

Other Club Olympia swimmers achieving best times were Arjun Agarkar (4), Amelia Arul (3 PRs), Gray Bateman (4), Sarthak Desmukh (5), Joey Elkalla (6), Vihaan Gallege (5), Neeti Gujarathi (1), Gargi Gupta (4), Myra Jaryal (4), Adir Joshi (5), Shourya Malviya (5), Victoria Mocanu (4), Vibha Nagiligari (3), Misheeta Pal (1), Harini Pinna (1), Christopher Plunkett (2), Noah Plunkett (2), Ritsuki Singh (4), Sara Sonalkar (3), Daxton Wolf (6) and Bella Zhang (1).

Also achieving a Divisional cut were Nagiliari, Plunkett and Ricky Singh. Wolf achieved personal-best times in three of his 11-12 Boys events.

BROOMBALL

Hansons remain unbeaten

Hansons ran its record to 10-0 in the Columbus Broomball League with a 4-2 win against Jennings County BC on Sunday.

Matt Psota scored two goals, and Erik Spilling and Ryan Jepson each added one for Hansons. Kyle Hunteman had both goals for Jennings (3-5-2).

Monsters of Rock topped Toyota Tsunamis 5-1. Ben Eckhart and Kyle Roshak each netted two gaols, and Katelyn Perera added one for Monsters (8-2). Clayton McNealy scored for Tsunamis (0-9-1).

CCA edged Our Name is Earl 2-1. Greg Thomas had both gaols for CCA (4-5-1). Gabe Marsh scored for Earl (3-7).

BASKETBALL

Panthers top Chargers

The Jennings County seventh-grade JV boys posted a 37-30 win against Central on Monday. Jonah Kreutzjans scored 10 points, and Bladen Wagner added eight for the Panthers.

On Wednesday, the Jennings seventh-graders (5-11) fell to Scottsburg 20-25. Kreutzjans scored nine points, and Barrett Stoner had eight.

The Panther eighth-grade JV edged Scottsburg 37-36. Cameron Patterson scored 10 points, and Rodney Benham added eight for Jennings (4-13).
