Propeller makerspace buzzing with February events

The Columbus Propeller makerspace at the Columbus Municipal Airport will host creative classes on candlemaking, welding and more in February.

Looking to learn a new skill, sharpen up your talents or just take part in fun activities with like-minded folks? Propeller, our local makerspace at Columbus Municipal Airport, invites community members to the following February events:

Lego Club: Monday, Feb. 5, 12 and 26, 5:30-6:30 p.m. Join Propeller’s ever-growing and free Lego Club for these events:

  • Feb. 5: Lego Team build and presentation.
  • Feb. 12: Balloon-powered Lego cars
  • Feb. 26: TBA

Valentine’s Day Candle-Making Workshop: Friday, Feb. 9, 6-7:30 p.m. Cost is $30 per candle.

Renata Nunez from Panthera Candleworks will lead this workshop on candle making. Attendees will learn the steps of making their own personal candle. Each participant will make one candle during an event that would make a great Valentine’s date night.

Cricut 101: Canvas: Sunday, Feb. 17, 2-4:30 p.m. Cost is $20 per bag.

The basic experience of Cricut 101 will cover Cricut Design Space in the first portion of the class, providing valuable insights into tools and materials. Then, unleash your creativity as you craft a one-of-a-kind canvas bag from a selection of pre-designed options using heat transfer vinyl. A talented instructor will guide you every step of the way, ensuring you leave with a stunning creation that reflects your unique style.

Welding Workshop: Saturday, Feb. 24, 9 a.m.-1 p.m. Cost is $75 per person.

Join Propeller’s first-ever welding workshop. Attendees will begin in a classroom setting and learn the basics of welding, positions and equipment set up. Following your time in the classroom, you’ll tour Propeller’s metal shop and get and overview on welding safety and the importance of personal protection equipment.

Following this discussion, you’ll get hands-on experience with welding equipment under the guidance of experienced instructor. Attendees will receive 2 hours of welding time. We will have stations set up for MIG and flux core welding.

Columbus Propeller, 4760 Ray Boll Blvd., is a local makerspace, community center and event venue.
