Club Olympia adds state qualifying cuts at Franklin meet

Club Olympia Swim Team’s boys and girls combined to finish fifth out of 14 teams last weekend in the FRST 14-and-under Provincial Championships hosted by the Franklin Regional Swim Team.

The Provincial Championships is one of the final meets on the winter short course schedule that allows club athletes to achieve seasonal and lifetime best event times and qualify for the upcoming Indiana Short Course Championships.

Club Olympia had the fourth highest scoring boys team finishing behind the host FRST team and club teams from Fort Wayne and Bloomington.

For the meet, Club Olympia swimmers swam to 138 personal-best times during the weekend, while claiming 134 top-10 finishes, including 45 top-three finishes. The personal-best records included Age Group State Championship qualifying times in four events and Divisionals Qualifying times in seven new events.

Aahan Gupta placed second in the 10U 50-yard freestyle, 50 breaststroke, 50 backstroke, 100 freestyle, 100 backstroke, 200 freestyle and 200 individual medley. Gupta added third-place finishes in the 100 breaststroke and 100 butterfly and a fourth in the 50 butterfly to lead Club Olympia in scoring.

Max Tempest was the top-performing 8-year-old, placing second in the 200 freestyle; third in the 100 butterfly and 200 IM; fourth in the 50 backstroke, 100 freestyle and 100 breaststroke and fifth in the 50 freestyle and 100 backstroke, with two additional top-10 finishes.

Vivan Shah finished fourth in the 50 breaststroke, 200 freestyle and 200 IM and fifth in the 50 backstroke, 100 freestyle, 100 butterfly and 100 breaststroke, with three additional top-10 finishes.

Camila Mejia Murguia placed second in the 50 backstroke, 50 butterfly and 500 freestyle, third in the 50 freestyle and 100 butterfly, fourth in the 100 freestyle and 100 backstroke and fifth in the 200 IM.

Adir Joshi took fourth in the 100 freestyle, 200 freestyle and 100 butterfly, with five additional top 10-finishes.

Chad Pendleton finished no worse than third while competing in only six events, with second-place finishes in the 50 freestyle and 50 butterfly, 100 breaststroke, 200 freestyle and 200 IM and a third in the 100 backstroke.

Josh Pendleton was the top-performing 13-year-old, but swam a limited schedule taking first in the 50 freestyle, 200 butterfly and 400 IM. He was joined in the 13-14 age group by Nandini Kondhare and Alex Stilson, who

both also swam limited weekend schedules and combined for four top-15 finishes.

The 11- and 12-year-old divisions saw Rebeca Mejia Murguia placed second in the 50 breaststroke, third in the 100 breaststroke and fifth in the 100 butterfly, with four additional top 10 finishes. Shreyan Kulkarni, swimming a limited schedule, won the 50 butterfly and took second in the 100 freestyle, 200 freestyle, 500 freestyle and 200 IM. Lily Pendleton; also swimming a limited number of events; was second in the 50 freestyle; third in the 50 butterfly, 200 IM and 500 freestyle and fourth in the 200 freestyle. Lexi Miller had six top-10 finishes, while Kay Payne and Arjun Agarkar combined for seven top-10 finishes.

Cali Gray placed in the top 10 in 10 events in the 10U division. Sarthak Deshmukh finished fifth in the 200 IM, with seven additional top-10 finishes. Neeti Gujarathi and Rayaan Malviya each contributed four top-10 finishes. Eva Rayomand and Bella Zhang both claimed six top-10 finishes. Vihaan Gallege and Mishu Pal each claimed two top-10 finishes.

Arash Thokade finished second in the 50 freestyle and 100 butterfly; third in the 50 butterfly, 100 freestyle and 100 backstroke and fifth in the 50 breaststroke among 8-year-olds.

Lexi Miller achieved her first 11-12 Age Group State Championship qualifying time, and Alex Stilson achieved his first two Divisional Championships qualifying times.
