Baritone singer Brian Pierson earned first place in the Anna Newell Brown Awards for Vocal Excellence and a $3,500 scholarship during the Brown Music Scholarship Competition at Columbus’ First Christian Church. Pianist Erica Sun finished first in the Betty F. Brown Awards for Instrumental Excellence and also received a $3,500 scholarship.

1999

City Council granted a tax abatement on Toyota Industrial Equipment Manufacturing Inc.’s proposed $7.87 million investment and praised the company for its contributions to the community. TIEM installed equipment for the manufacturing of a new model forklift, which created eight new jobs.

1974

The local Veterans of Foreign Wars post celebrated their 75th anniversary with a pitch-in dinner. The dinner also celebrated VFW Week, which was recognized across the United States.
