Two Columbus North individuals and a relay team and two Columbus East relay teams have earned call-backs to this weekend’s Boys Swimming State Finals.
North’s Jude Abdallah in the 50-yard freestyle and Diego Cotero Tapia in the 100 butterfly and the Bull Frogs’ 200 freestyle relay team got call-backs, along with the Olympians’ 200 medley and 400 freestyle relays.

No swimmers from North or East had automatically qualified by winning an event or meeting the state cut at Saturday’s North Sectional. But the aforementioned group were among the next-best 12 times from around the state in their respective events.
The Olympians’ Gavin Day won the diving competition on Saturday and will compete in the Jasper Diving Regional on Tuesday. The top eight from there qualify for state.
State swimming preliminaries begin at 6 p.m. Friday at IUPUI’s Indiana University Natatorium. Diving starts at 9 a.m. Saturday, and swimming consolations and finals begin at 1 p.m. Saturday.
