College sports notebook: Gilley, Harmon post pitching victories

NORTH PORT, Fla. — Cole Gilley picked up his first win of the season in Indiana State’s 5-2 victory against Florida Gulf Coast on Wednesday.

Gilley, a redshirt junior from Columbus East, pitched 3.1 innings of relief. He allowed one run and three hits and struck out three.

The Sycamores (7-0) visit Vanderbilt on Tuesday.

Harmon notches win in collegiate debut

MEMPHIS — Luke Harmon threw 4.1 scoreless innings of relief Friday to pick up the win in his collegiate debut in Franklin’s 10-6 season-opening victory against Rhodes.

Harmon, a freshman from Columbus North, allowed two hits. He struck out three and walked one.

The Grizzlies (1-2) host Hope on Friday and Saturday.

Greenwell, Harrison shine for Raiders

NORMAN, Okla. — Julian Greenwell went 1 for 4 with a stolen base, and Parker Harrison was hit by a pitch and scored a run Saturday in Wright State’s 10-3 loss at Oklahoma.

On Sunday, Greenwell, a fifth-year senior from Columbus East, went 2 for 5 with an RBI and a run scored in a 12-2 loss to the Sooners. Harrison, a redshirt sophomore from East, went 1 for 3.

McIntosh records hit at Alabama

Kyler McIntosh went 1 for 3 Wednesday in Alabama State’s 12-0 loss at Alabama.

McIntosh, a junior from Columbus North, went 1 for 4 with a double in a 7-1 loss to Southern on Friday. He went 1 for 4 with a stolen base and two runs scored in Saturday’s 5-4 win over Grambling State and 2 for 5 with a double and a run in Sunday’s 13-12 10-inning loss to Prairie View A&M.

The Hornets (3-5) will host Maryland-Eastern Shore Friday through Sunday.

Harmon helps Iowa Western to win

Reese Harmon went 1 for 4 with a double and three RBIs in Iowa Western’s 16-2 win at Crowder.

Norman homers in Marian victory

NEW ALBANY — Sierra Norman, a senior from Columbus North, went 1 for 2 with a home run and two RBIs Monday to help lead Marian to an 11-0 season-opening win at IU Southeast.

In the second game of the doubleheader, IU Southeast’s Josie Lemmons, a freshman from North, went 2 for 4 with two runs scored, and Lillian Mackey, a sophomore from North, went 2 for 4. Marian won 11-4.

Foster helps Orange topple Aces

MONROE, La. — Kenzie Foster went 3 for 3 with a stolen base and two runs scored Friday to lead Syracuse to a 10-0 win against Evasnville in the Best of the Bayou Classic.

Foster, a freshman from Columbus East, had a sacrifice and scored a run in Saturday’s 11-8 loss to Northwestern State.

Rutan hits, pitches for Colonels

ST. GEORGE, Utah — Maddi Rutan went 1 for 3 with a triple, an RBI and a run scored and allowed four runs (two earned) on seven hits in four innings in taking the loss in Eastern Kentucky’s 4-2 loss to Weber State on Saturday.

Rutan, a freshman from Columbus North, went 0 for 3 in a 12-2 loss to Utah State on Saturday. On Sunday, she went 2 for 4 with an RBI in an 11-3 loss to Weber State and 1 for 4 with an RBI and allowed three runs on six hits in taking the loss in a 3-2 loss to Utah State.

The Colonels (10-4) host the EKU Colonel Classic Friday through Sunday.

Newell runs in winning DMR team

BOSTON — Matt Newell, a sophomore from Columbus North, anchored Navy’s winning distance medley relay team at the Patriot League Indoor Championships.

The Midshipmen ran a meet-record 9 minutes, 51.15 seconds in the 4,000-meter event.

Kiesler takes second in MWC meet

ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. — Julia Kiesler finished second in the 5,000 meters in 16:55.07 Saturday to lead the Boise State women in the Mountain West Indoor Championships.

Russell runs on 7th-place 4×800 team

CHICAGO — Will Russell ran on Xavier’s seventh-place 4×800-meter relay team Saturday at the BIG EAST Championships. The Musketeers’ time of 7:53.38 was the eighth-fastest in school history.

Boezeman helps Marian split games

Rylie Boezeman played 14 minutes in Marian’s 12-7 lacrosse win at Georgetown (Ky.) on Wednesday.

Rooks records senior night win

BLOOMINGTON — Graham Rooks, a sixth-year senior from Columbus East, won by tech fall in his 149-pound match in Indiana’s 33-11 senior night win against Chattanooga on Friday.

North grads’ teams fall in semifinals

LEXINGTON, Ky. —Kylah Lawson, a sophomore from Columbus North, recorded eight points, eight rebounds and two blocks and led Hanover with six steals in 23 minutes Friday in a 69-57 loss to Mount St. Joseph in the semifinals of the Heartland Collegiate Athetic Conference Tournament.

In the other semifinal, Lauren Barker, a freshman from North, netted three points, two rebounds and a steal in 19 minutes in Franklin’s 83-52 loss at NAIA No. 1 Transylvania.

WEST TERRE HAUTE — Madison White, a junior from Columbus North, recorded two points, two rebounds, an assist, a steal and a block in 11 minutes Thursday in St. Mary of the Woods’ 81-51 River States Conference win against Brescia (Ky.).
