Norman Howard Hyatt, 88, of Martinsville, Indiana passed away Thursday, February 22, 2024, at his home.

He was born Tuesday, September 24, 1935, in Bargersville, Indiana to the late Johnny Henry and Ethel Mae (Ward) Hyatt.

Norm grew up in Bargersville and was a graduate of Center Grove High School. He spent his high school years becoming a local basketball star and working for area farmers while also serving in the Navy Reserves. In November of 1954 Norman joined the United States Marine Corp where he proudly served for 32 years. During his military career, both active duty and reserves, he won many awards including expert marksman with rifles and handguns and also leading his Marine basketball team to a championship. He received the rank of Chief Warrant Officer 4 before retiring in 1986. After leaving active service, he began working for General Motors, Truck and Bus, as a tool and die maker. Norman retired from GM after 33 years in 1993. While working at GM, he met his love, Kay Beasley. After retirement, he spent the next thirty years doing everything he loved. He and Kay traveled out west. He spent time enjoying the outdoors especially in his favorite spot under the maple tree on his farm. He never missed an IU basketball game. Norm loved bowling and was always in a league, he continued to assist with the Marine Corp Scholarship programs, and in general hanging out with his Marine buddies. However, the most important thing to him was family.
