Jennings deputies, ISP arrest suspect after chase through multiple counties

JENNINGS COUNTY — Jennings County Sheriff deputies, assisted by multiple police agencies, arrested a North Vernon driver on a number of drug-related charges after a pursuit on Thursday.

At about 2:42 p.m., Jennings deputies initiated a traffic stop on a blue Ford Explorer on UlS. Highway 50 near Nebraska, deputies said.

Deputies witnessed multiple traffic infractions and were able to positively identify the driver as Michael Vance, 35, North Vernon, who had felony warrants through Jennings County and Dearborn County. Vance initially pulled to the side of Highway 50 and then decided to initiate a vehicle pursuit, deputies said.

Vance traveled at spe,eds up to 90 mph toward Holton, while deputies pursued him. When Vance observed Ripley County deputies set up on U.S. Highway 50 with stop sticks, he attempted to evade law enforcement through a cornfield and onto a county road in Ripley County. Deputies continued to pursue him through the county roads out to State Road 421 where he continued toward Versailles. Vance then observed Indiana State Police Troopers set up with stop sticks and turned around continuing to evade law enforcement toward Jefferson County.

During the pursuit, Jennings County Central Dispatcher Sandra Beam was in contact with Vance and his wife on the phone. Dispatchers talked to Vance and told him to surrender. He eventually came to a stop on the Ripley County and Jefferson County line where deputies and Indiana State Police took him into custody without incident.

Deputies went back through the path of the pursuit and located numerous illegal items along the roadway that they witnessed Vance throw out of his vehicle.

Vance is being housed at the Jennings County Jail where he will be held until he is released and transferred to Dearborn County. Michael is being held on the preliminary charges of:

– Reckless Driving a Class C Misdemeanor

– Warrant for Probation Violation through Dearborn County
