Hannah Webster: JCHS stages phenomenal ‘Mamma Mia!’

By Hannah Webster

Jennings County High School put on a production of “Mamma Mia!” Feb. 23-24 at the Don Pelkey Auditorium.

The show was brought to life by the students as well as the directors. This was choir director Aaron Brooks’ first musical at JCHS. Also directing were conductor Paige Chadwick, as well as assistant pit director Chris Billings.

“Mamma Mia!” tells the story of a young girl, Sophie, on the journey to find out who her father is. She invites all of the possible fathers, Sam, Bill, and Harry, to her wedding, without her mother, Donna, knowing. Donna was in a band in the 70s, Donna and the Dynamos, with her two best pals, Tanya and Rosie.

This story is told through the music of the Swedish band ABBA, well known for such 70s hit songs as “Dancing Queen” and “Mamma Mia.”

The show was phenomenal! The student cast, crew, and pit put on an unforgettable musical. Senior Macie Voss, who played Sophie, added that her favorite part of the musical was, “getting close with the cast.” Junior Aida Kovacich, who played Sophie’s friend, Lisa, said, “this musical was more engaging for the students and the modern musical was relevant for teens.”

Congratulations to the Jennings County Music Department on an amazing production! Best of luck with next year’s show! For more information about JCHS’ upcoming choir events, check the Facebook page for Jennings County Choirs.
