NORTH VERNON — A North Vernon man was arrested on multiple charges after he led officers on a pursuit at 9:02 a.m. Thursday in the area of North State Road 3 and U.S. 50.

North Vernon police said they were sent with Rescue 20 to the highway intersection about a male who was reportedly passed out behind the wheel of a car.

Firefighters and paramedics attempted to wake the driver, later identified as Jarvie Trey Williams III, 30, North Vernon, when he suddenly woke up and refused instructions
to place the vehicle in park, said Sgt. Isaac Barkes, North Vernon police spokesman.

Williams then left the scene, and drove away at a high rate of speed, Barkes said.

Officers attempted to follow Williams, but lost sight of the vehicle on US 50 west of North State Road 3. As officers approached the intersection of North State Road 7 and U.S. 50, they observed Williams had crashed into a Freightliner bucket truck which was
stopped facing south on North State Road 7. None of the occupants of the bucket truck were injured in the collision.

Williams was detained, and refused medical treatment on scene, Barkes said. As a result of the investigation, Williams was arrested on preliminary charges of Class A misdemeanor reckless driving and criminal recklessness. More charges are possible, Barkes said.
