Westport man arrested after walking from Jennings County crash

Lovingood

A Westport man is facing multiple criminal charges after Jennings County authorities say he walked away from the scene of a crash Thursday evening.

Bradley Lovingood, 31, Westport, was booked into the Jennings County Jail Friday, preliminary charges of Class A misdemeanor operating a vehicle while intoxicated and resisting law enforcement as well as a Class C misdemeanor count of leaving the scene of an accident. Bond was set at $905.

According to a release the Jennings County Sheriff’s Department, Deputy Dylan Smock and Sgt. Ben Seastrom were dispatched to crash at the intersection of State Road 3 and County Road 675 North. A caller told dispatchers the driver of the vehicle was walking away from the accident scene.

When responders arrived, bystanders told them the driver was last seen walking northbound on State Road 3 and walked into the woods on the west side of the road. Smock walked into the woods and observed the driver running in the opposite direction.

When deputies announced themselves, they said Lovingood fled on foot. After a lengthy foot pursuit and the use of a Taser, officers said Lovingood was taken into custody without further incident.

Lovingood was treated by Rescue 20 at the scene and transported to a hospital for further evaluation. He was then transported to the Jennings County Jail.

Jennings County Sheriff’s Department also was assisted on the scene by North Vernon police and fire departments, Jennings County dispatch and Lucas Wrecker Service.
