Greensburg man arrested on six felonies after being accused of pointing a firearm at another individual

COLUMBUS, Ind. — A Greensburg man was arrested on six felony charges after he reportedly pointed a firearm at another person early Sunday morning and later resisted arrest during a traffic stop.
At approximately 1 a.m., CPD officers responded to a report of a disturbance in the 600 block of Maple Street. During the incident, it was reported that Jesse J. Sparks, 31, of Greensburg, pointed a firearm at another person. Sparks reportedly fled the area in a red minivan. Officers observed a red minivan a short time later and stopped the vehicle on 25th Street.
Law enforcement officers from the Columbus Police Department and Bartholomew County Sheriff’s Office made contact with Sparks who was the driver of the vehicle. Sparks was uncooperative with officers and refused to exit the vehicle, police said. When officers attempted restrain Sparks’ arms, he pulled away and began reaching in the vehicle where the officers could not see. A Taser was deployed by the officers and Sparks was eventually removed from the vehicle and was taken into custody. A loaded 9mm pistol was recovered from the waistband of Sparks’ pants. The officers also located a large amount of methamphetamine and U.S. currency in Sparks’ clothing.
During a search of the vehicle, the officers located a backpack containing additional methamphetamine that appeared to be packaged for sale as well as drug paraphernalia including digital scales.
A small child that was in the back seat of Sparks’ vehicle and was removed by law enforcement officers during the incident was left in the care of a family member.
A Bartholomew County Sheriff’s deputy who received a minor injury during the altercation was treated at Columbus Regional Hospital.
Sparks was placed under arrest and transported to the Bartholomew County Jail where he was remanded with a 48 hour hold on the following preliminary charges:
Dealing in Methamphetamine (Level 2 Felony), Unlawful Possession of a Firearm by a Serious Violent Felon (Level 4 Felony), Neglect of a Dependent (Level 5 Felony), Intimidation with a Firearm (Level 5 Felony), Pointing a Firearm (Level 6 Felony), Resisting Law Enforcement (Level 6 Felony).
