Literacy Task Force to present author’s conference, literary festival

The Bartholomew County Literacy Task Force will host the 15th annual Bartholomew Reads Authors Conference and Literary Festival at Central Middle School on April 6.

In addition to its traditional activities of children’s games and activities focused on literacy, the festival will feature presentations by author Jerry Craft, as well as presentations by local authors.

Craft will give his presentation from 10 to 11 a.m. with activities focusing on children and families from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. Door prizes will be awarded and there will be gentlyused books available for distribution.

The task force has been active with many literacy initiatives including the publication of a multilingual parent book.

Organizations that wish to have a station at the literacy festival providing a children’s game or activity that involves literacy are welcome to apply by sending an email to reserve a booth to [email protected]. Booth reservations request are due by March 22. Booth activities are from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m.

The Bartholomew County Literacy Task Force is a collaborative initiative involving organizations and agencies concerned with the level of literacy int he community. The goals of the task force are that all children come to school ready to learn to read, all children will read on grade level by third grade, all caregivers will be equipped to support their child’s education, all Bartholomew County adults will be proficient readers and all adults will support county literacy initiatives.
