Duncan tied for sixth in TPC after first-round 67

PONTE VEDRA BEACH, Fla. — Tyler Duncan fired a 5-under-par 67 in Thursday’s opening round and is tied for sixth place in The Players Championship.

Starting on the back nine, the Columbus North graduate shot 2-under 34 on his first nine and 3-under 33 on the front at TPC Sawgrass. He had five birdies and no bogeys.

Nine players were still on the course when play was suspended because of darkness.

Xander Schauffele, Rory McIlroy and Wyndham Clark are tied for the lead at 7-under 65. Nick Taylor and Matt Fitzpatrick are tied for fourth at 6-under 66, and Duncan is among seven players at 5-under.
