COLUMBUS
Janet Carol Richards, aged 82, a longtime resident of Columbus, passed away peacefully at 10:22 p.m. Sunday, March 10, 2024 at Our Hospice of South Central Indiana Inpatient Facility.
Janet was born November 28, 1941, in Columbus, Indiana, the daughter of John Melvin and Evelyn Z. Weekly Spurgeon.
Janet worked for Arvin Industries for many years before retiring. She enjoyed roller skating in her earlier days and later in life found a passion for mushroom hunting and visiting various flea markets. She was also a fan of NASCAR racing, especially watching Ernie Irvan race. Janet will be lovingly remembered as an attentive and caring mother, grandmother and great-grandmother. She will certainly be missed by those that knew and loved her.
Survivors include her daughters, Rebecca (Brad Dove) Richards of Helmsburg, Annette McClintic, of Columbus, Kimberly (Dale) Burris of North Vernon; grandchildren, Kayleigh (Chris) Royer, Torrie (Tom) Wagner, Cory (Jennifer Bell) Burris; great-granddaughters, Lillian, Madleyn, Ramona and another soon expected great-granddaughter.
She was preceded in death by her parents and infant son, Gregory.
The funeral service will be conducted at 1:00 p.m. Tuesday at Barkes, Weaver &Glick Funeral Home on Washington Street with Pastor Chris Lockman officiating. Visitation will be from 11:00 a.m. until the time of service Tuesday at the funeral home. A live stream of the funeral service may be viewed at 1:00 p.m. Tuesday at barkesweaverglick.com.
Interment will be at Garland Brook Cemetery.
