IUC baseball, softball sweeps Alice Lloyd

IU Columbus had its way with Alice Lloyd on Sunday, sweeping a River States Conference softball doubleheader at Ceraland and winning a baseball game in Pippa Passes, Kentucky.

The Crimson Pride won the softball games 9-1 and 14-10. Sydney Owens threw a five-inning two-hitter in the opener. Mallory Shelton went 2 for 3 with a double, Gracie Holok went 2 for 3 and Izzy Johnson and Columbus North graduate Lexi Heafner each had a double and two RBIs.

In the second game, Holok went 3 for 5 with a double, Macy Hussung and Brown County graduate Taylor Poling each went 2 for 3 with a double, Morgan Steineker went 2 for 4 with two RBIs, North graduate Taylor Hadley went 2 for 4, Shelton had a home run and three RBIs and Allison Frost added a double and three RBIs. Erica Henry picked up the win in relief of Alexia Rieckers.

The IUC baseball team won 10-6 at Alice Lloyd. Alec Beatty went 2 for 4 with a double, a home run and two RBIs; Brevin Barker went 2 for 4 with two RBIs and Peyton Blinn had two RBIs. Starting pitcher Nathan Van Bibber picked up the win, and North graduate Casper Clark allowed only one hit and struck out two in three scoreless innings of relief to earn the save.

The softball team (3-11, 3-5) will play a doubleheader Tuesday at Miami-Hamilton and host doubleheaders with Brescia on Friday and Oakland City on Saturday. The baseball team (8-19, 2-7) visits St. Francis on Wednesday.
