Tune in Tonight: Just try to keep up with Netflix

Director Wes Anderson recently won his first Oscar for the live-action short “The Wonderful Story of Henry Sugar,” starring Benedict Cumberbatch. Anderson expands his Netflix efforts with “The Wonderful Story of Henry Sugar and Three More,” adapting additional stories by Roald Dahl, the author best known for “Matilda” and “Charlie and the Chocolate Factory.” The latter recently adapted (for the third time) in the 2023 fantasy “Wonka,” starring Timothee Chalamet, now streaming on Max.

In other Netflix news, former child actress Lindsay Lohan stars in “Irish Wish,” a whimsical romance set in the Emerald Isle and shot through with magical thinking.

Also on Netflix, The imported true-crime docuseries “The Outreau Case: A French Nightmare” follows an investigation into allegations of pedophilia in a family that hits legal and political roadblocks when more townsfolk are implicated.

Rounding out our Netflix offerings, the Mexican reality series “Forever Queens” follows a pop girl group as they try to rekindle old musical magic with several new divas. Not unrelated to the news that Netflix recently began streaming the pop music girl group spoof “Girls5Eva,” now in its third season after streaming the first two on Peacock.

— All six episodes of the National Geographic series “Photographer” are now streaming on Hulu and Disney+. Each episode profiles a single professional and their particular approach to visual storytelling, whether their work is elaborately staged in a laboratory or studio, or is subject to the ravages of nature or the chaos of war.

— The two-part series “Dante: Inferno to Paradise” (8 p.m., PBS, TV-PG, check local listings) concludes. Using period artworks, staged reenactments and location footage, it follows the 14th-century Italian poet over decades as he wrote his epic poetry, notable for documenting contemporary figures and events, rather than classical or biblical legends.

It was also composed in Italian and not Latin. As such it was the beginning of a kind of linguistic liberation that would later follow in other countries as great works written in William Shakespeare’s English and Martin Luther’s German turned the popular tongue into the equal of the rarified language of an elite priesthood.

While “Dante” would be a great addition to any college course or seminar, it may not rise (or sink) to the level of “entertainment” some expect from broadcast television.

— Fans of the so-bad-it’s-good school of distraction should not miss director Otto Preminger’s 1968 comedy “Skidoo,” streaming on Plex. A bizarre tale of hippies, gangsters, music and LSD, it stars Jackie Gleason, Carol Channing, Mickey Rooney and Groucho Marx, among others! Songs by Harry Nilsson, who also makes a brief appearance.
