Seven Bartholomew Consolidated School Corp. VEX Robotics teams are heading to the state championship. BCSC will be represented by five elementary school teams and two middle school teams.

The Indiana Robotics State Championship for VEX Robotics teams will take place on Saturday at Lucas Oil Stadium where more than 350 teams from across the state will try to punch their tickets to the 2024 VEX Robotics World Championship held in Dallas from April 25 through May 3.

The following teams earned their way to the state championship:

  • Team 59813A Super Sonics, Smith Elementary
  • Team 59813B Sonic Cyborgs, Smith Elementary
  • Team 84636A Pirate Robotics, Parkside Elementary
  • Team 59813Y Electro Power Kids, Smith Elementary
  • Team 42354A Southside VEX-Stangs, Southside Elementary
  • Team 59813C Central Circuit Breakers, Central Middle School
  • Team 47201A ChargerBots, Central Middle School

BCSC Robotics Event Partner and Smith Elementary coach Lisa Haines said she was surprised but thrilled to see so many teams qualify.

“For us to be able to pull off having seven teams going, it’s remarkable,” Haines said. “And that can be credited to the coaches, the volunteers that work with the teams, and to the students themselves.”

Haines said coaches and teams were closely monitoring spreadsheets throughout the past week to see where they fell. The Southside VexStangs were just able to “squeeze in,” she said.

Last year was the first that BCSC teams competed in VEX Robotics. There were only three teams at the time and that number has since ballooned to 27.
