Brian’s picks

The Republic’s Brian Blair recommends a few area entertainment options.

* As passionate as Columbus Indiana Philharmonic Music Director Isaac Selya is about the singular element of music, he is equally passionate about involving as many components as possible to add an extra exclamation point to the orchestra’s concerts. And the ensemble’s performance of perhaps Giuseppe Verdi’s best-known, major work — Requiem, to honor his deceased friend, writer Alessandro Manzoni — will be the 3 p.m. Saturday presentation of “Defiant Requiem: Verdi at Terezin” at Judson Erne Auditorium, 1400 25th St. The Philharmonic Chorus, video clips, actors and more will highlight the struggling Jewish choirs courageously singing the classic, Latin work to Nazis and others at the World War II prison camp at Terezin in the current Czech Republic. * Country veteran Clint Black Clint wrote or co-wrote every one of his more than three dozen chart hits, including “A Better Man,” “Where Are You Now,” “When My Ship Comes In,” “A Good Run of Bad Luck,” and many more that are “part of a catalog that produced 22 #1 singles and made him one of the most successful singer/songwriters of the modern era,” according to his online bio. He will be in concert at 8 p.m. Sunday at Brown County Music Center, 200 Maple Leaf Boulevard in Nashville. Information: browncountymusiccenter.com.

* “No Fences: The Ultimate Tribute to Garth Brooks” is set for 7:30 p.m. Saturday at Brown County Playhouse, 70 S. Van Buren St. in Nashville. Tickets are $20. Information: browncountyplayhouse.org.
