Looking Back – March 20

Workers put the finishing touches on a newly constructed bell tower at the Petersville United Methodist Church on March 20, 1974. Helping with installation were Jim Harden, Larry Nolting, Tony Harden, Joe Bush, Paul Finkle, Frank Snyder and Don Forest.

2014

Edinburgh father and son duo Patrick Shehan and Joe Shehan put in the work to become expert turkey callers. Patrick placed second in the 18 and under division of the Ohio State Deer and Turkey Expo in Columbus, Ohio, and finished fifth in his age division of the Grand National Calling Championship put on by the National Wild Turkey Federation in Nashville, Tenn.

1999

Fourth-graders in the Discovering Your World class at Southside Elementary School inflated a balloon under a halved chocolate cake to demonstrate the uneven movement of the earth’s crust during an earthquake. Some students covered their ears, as they expected the balloon to burst.

1974

The week of March 20 was proclaimed Educational Bosses Week for the Bartholomew Schools Association of Educational Secretaries by the mayor of Columbus. Members of the association honored their employers and administrators in the Bartholomew Consolidated School Corp. at a dinner at Southside Junior High School.
