Prep sports notebook: Rosters announced for All-Area All-Star Games

In case you missed it, the All-Area All-Star girls and boys basketball games featuring most of the players on The Republic’s All-Area teams, will take place Saturday night at Columbus Christian. The girls game will be at 6 p.m. and the boys game will follow around 7:30 p.m. The All-Area girls and boys teams and Player of the Year stories will appear in The Republic at a later date.

Rosters for the games have been announced. The Girls Red team will consist of Columbus East’s Madelyn Poe and Jenna Guse, Columbus Christian’s Emma Murray and Olivia Wise, Jennings County’s Alivia Elmore and Mollie Ernstes, Brown County’s Lexie Austin and South Decatur’s Kiley Best. The Girls Blue team will feature Columbus North’s Kaylie Harmon, Miley McClellan, Avery Johnson and Olivia Johnson and Trinity Lutheran’s Madison Keith, Liza Froedge and Marley Warren.

There will be three boys teams, and each team will play two quarters against one of the other teams. The Boys Blue team features North’s Caleb Ferguson, East’s Jack Fischvogt, Keaton Lawson, Carter Patterson and Mason Reeves and Trinity’s Hudson Lang, Kowan Gross and Levi Pottschmidt. The Boys White team will have Jennings’ Carter Kent, Cole Sigler and Dorian Hacker; Edinburgh’s Connor Ramey, Rylan Londeree and Austin Brockman and Brown County’s Eli Wrightsman and Cash Harden. The Boys Red team features Columbus Christian’s Peyton Walden, Josh Conrad and Cam Pritchard; Hauser’s Ledger Gelfius, Taeshaun Tungate, Kam Blair and Stryker Gill and South Decatur’s Jacob Scruggs and Colby Rathburn.

This is the first time the games will be played on a Saturday after being played on Mondays since the inaugural game began in 2015. The family of Kole Shewmaker, a North sophomore who was killed in a car accident, is the beneficiary from this year’s event.

Locals selected All-HHC in boys hoops

Jennings County’s Carter Kent has been named to the All-Hoosier Hills Conference boys basketball team.

The Panthers’ Cole Sigler and Dorian Hacker and Columbus East’s Jack Fischvogt and Keaton Lawson were named honorable mention.

East to hold ribbon-cutting for new field

Columbus East and Bartholomew Consolidated School Corp. will host a special ribbon-cutting event at the newly constructed softball diamond and the newly renovated baseball diamond at 5:30 p.m. Tuesday on the softball field.

The Olympians baseball team hosts Waubonsie Valley (Ill.), and the softball team will host Edinburgh following the ceremony.

North cross-country to have brief info meeting

Columbus North boys and girls cross-country coach Rick Sluder is planning on having a brief informational meeting for all interested runners, including both returning and new runners, and their parents at 6:30 p.m. Tuesday at the North High School Cafeteria.

The meeting will include information about upcoming team activities over the summer and fall, including team camp dates and summer training schedules. Coaches also will be on hand to answer any and all questions about joining the team.
