Brian’s picks

Republic reporter Brian Blair offers his take on area events.

* Especially with spring bursting upon us, it’s the perfect time to embrace many of the bright shades of local artist Donna Rosenberg’s creativity that’s now part of a 13-painting exhibition at The Gallery at Hotel Indigo, 400 Brown St. in downtown Columbus. If you’ve been to the Our Hospice of South Central Indiana concert anytime in the past few years, you’ve probably seen her impressionist-style acrylic work. She hosts an opening reception from 5 to 7 p.m. today. The exhibition runs through May 12, and all pieces are for sale. Information: myartfuljoy.com.

* With all the upcoming eclipse events, we can’t let even all that cast a shadow on one of the city’s favorite visiting performers. Keyboard player and vocalist Tony DeSare, who sings everything from Sinatra to Journey, returns to the Columbus Indiana Philharmonic’s popular Cabaret at The Commons series at 7:30 p.m. April 4 at The Commons, 300 Washington St. in downtown Columbus. We’ve lost count at this point how many times since 2015 he’s done the Cabaret, performed with the orchestra, or even sung on the sidewalk on Washington Street, for Pete’s sake. You could nearly say he’s an artist in almost-residence, OK? Information: thecip.org.

* Organizers of late summer’s ChamberFest Brown County are presenting a concert with pianist Andreas Ioannides performing Franz Liszt’s 12 Transcendental Studies in a free concert at 4 p.m. Saturday at Helen Haddad Hall, 315 Franklin St. in downtown Columbus. There is a suggested donation of $20.
