Baskets of fun: Area Easter egg hunts highlight seasonal joy

Easter egg hunts in Columbus have been a tradition for generations, as seen in this photo of Valerie Slupski collecting her share at Donner Park during the 51st annual Community Easter Egg Hunt in 2010. This year, a park-sponsored hunt will move to the new NexusPark, while several area churches also plan events this weekend.

For a kid, maybe nothing is quite as sweet as a successful Easter egg hunt, whether those eggs are filled with candy or trinkets.

We know that hunting for eggs is more important than taking too much time merely to find an Easter egg hunt near you.

So here’s a list of the ones we’re aware of yet to unfold in the Columbus area.

One of the larger gatherings is one organized by the local Emma Grace Foundation and featuring some 20,000 eggs filled with tickets for candy, toys and other prizes and hidden on the Central Middle School football field at 725 Seventh St. in downtown Columbus. The foundation supports a wide range of children’s causes in memory of Emma Grace Sweet, who died at age 2 in 2021.

“I am super exited for this event,” said mom Linsey Sweet, saying organizers expect about 400 children to attend. “… We went big this year and even had to find a bigger location (than last year).

“It’s all for the kids of the community. Those big smiles are what make it all count and worth it.”

Two “golden eggs” per age group will hold what Sweet called special prizes.
