CPD arrests suspect after foot chase

Dampier

A local man is in custody for warrants and drug-related charges following a foot pursuit.

At about 5:01 p.m. Friday, Columbus Police Officer Cameron Curry saw Calvin Dampier, 36, in the 2200 block of Wallace Avenue. Curry attempted to detain Dampier for his Bartholomew County arrest warrants, said Sgt. Skylar Berry, Columbus Police Department spokesman.

Dampier pulled away from the officer and began running, but was quickly apprehended in the 2200 block of Ohio Avenue, Berry said.

During a search of Dampier’s clothing, officers located suspected methamphetamine and a syringe, Berry said.

Dampier was arrested for two Bartholomew County warrants and the preliminary charges of possession of methamphetamine (Level 6 felony), possession of a syringe (Level 6 felony), and resisting law enforcement (Class A misdemeanor).
