Don’t be in the dark: Here’s a list of eclipse-related events

You can call it a passing phenomenon — the moon passing between the Earth and the sun and blocking the light amid a total solar eclipse coming April 8.

But there is more than a passing interest in this area in the rare occurrence — and the events that organizers still have planned to keep a possible 150,000 visitors busy.

Courtesy of the Columbus Area Visitors Center and other local sources, here are some of the gatherings scheduled. Others are listed at columbus.in.us/eclipse.

  • Solar Eclipse at kidscommons, 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. and 2 to 5 p.m. today through Monday, April 8, 309 Washington St. in downt0own Columbus. Various children’s programming, including what happens during an eclipse. Information: kidscommons.org.
  • “Here Comes the Moon: An Eclipse Guide in Totality,” multimedia presentation spanning eclipse basics to photography tips and more by Columbus native Maria Schwartzman Webb at 4 p.m. Friday and 10:30 a.m. Saturday at YES Cinema, 328 Jackson St. in downtown Columbus.   • CERA Sports Park & Campground Total Solar Eclipse Party Weekend, Friday to April 8, live music, food trucks, bounce houses, and lots more. Information: ceraland,org.
  • Total Eclipse: The Minut Piano Duo In Concert with Bogdan and Mirabella Minut, 6 p.m. Sunday at St. Bartholomew Catholic Church, 1306 27th St. in Columbus.
  • Eclipse Community Worship organized by the Hope Ministerial Association, 3 p.m. Sunday, Hope Town Square. Message from Pastor Dennis Chastain, and worship music by Dale Sechrest and the Peace Band. Open to all.
  • A Total Solarbration on Fourth Street in downtown Columbus, 10 a.m. to 10 p.m. Saturday and 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Sunday. Live music, food, magic show and other children’s activities. Free.
  • Total Eclipse of the Hope, Saturday through April 8, Hope Town Square on Main Street, featuring games, live music, food, merchandise vendors and more. Information: Total Eclipse of the Hope.
  • Great American Eclipse Solarbration, 11 a.m. to 9 p.m. Sunday and April 8, 450 North Brewing Company, 8111 E. County Road 450N, north of Columbus. Food trucks, live music, beer release, wine and spirits and more.
  • Solar Spectacular, noon to 4 p.m. Monday, Central Middle School track, 725 Seventh St. in downtown Columbus with the Bartholomew County Public Library and kidscommons museum. All ages viewing party, free activities, music and more.
  • Tripp’s Eclipse Pawty, 4 to 8:30 p.m. Sunday at Hotel Indigo, 400 Brown St. in downtown Columbus. Live music, food trucks and more. Information: Facebook page for Tripp’s Eclipse Pawty.
  • Eclipsing the Renaissance free festival, noon to 4:30 p.m. April 8 at Columbus Municipal Airport, 4770 Ray Boll Boulevard. Live Celtic music, food such as turkey legs, ZwanzigZ Production Brewery craft beer, jousting tournament, ax throwing and more. Free.
