Tornado watch canceled for area counties

The National Weather Service has canceled the tornado watch for Bartholomew, Decatur, Johnson, Rush, Shelby, Brown, Jackson, and Jennings counties.

5:31 P.M. UPDATE

The National Weather Service in Indianapolis has issued a tornado warning for southeastern Jennings County in southeastern Indiana until 5:45 p.m.
At 5:25 p.m., a confirmed tornado was located 9 miles southeast of Vernon, or 21 miles east of Seymour, moving east at 45 mph.
Hail was present with this storm.
The thunderstorm with this tornado warning will remain over mainly rural areas of southeastern Jennings County.

 

ORIGINAL STORY

The National Weather Service has issued a tornado warning for Jennings and Jackson counties until 5:30 p.m. It is a radar-indicated warning.

Authorities have just reported a tornado on the ground east of Crothersville at approximately 5:05 p.m.

The warning has been issued specifically for southeastern Jackson County and southern Jennings County. At 4:53 p.m., a severe thunderstorm capable of producing a tornado was located eight miles northwest of Scottsburg, or 13 miles south of Seymour, moving east at 55 mph.

Quarter size hail is also indicated.

Flying debris will be dangerous to those caught without shelter. Mobile homes could be damaged or destroyed. Damage to roofs, windows, and vehicles could occur. Tree damage is likely.

Locations impacted include… North Vernon, Vernon, Crothersville, and Paris Crossing. This includes Interstate 65 between mile markers 37 and 44.
