Prep sports notebook: Ernstes picked for Futures Game

Jennings County sophomore Mollie Ernstes has been selected to play in the girls Futures Game as part of the Indiana-Kentucky All-Star basketball series.

Ernstes will play for the South team in a game against the North at 6 p.m. June 3 at Hamilton Southeastern. The boys Futures Game will follow.

Ernstes’ Panther teammate, Juliann Woodard, will play for the Indiana All-Stars against the Junior All-Stars at 6 p.m. June 5 at Kokomo and against the Kentucky All-Stars June 7 at a Kentucky site to be determined and 5 p.m. June 8 at Gainbridge Fieldhouse.

East picks boys hoops awards

Columbus East boys basketball held its postseason awards banquet.

Jack Fischvogt won the Compete and Communicate Awards, Kadin Lobdell won the Celebrate Award, Ethan Bumbalough won the Free Throw Award, Mason Reeves won the Assist/Turnover Award and Keaton Lawson won the Rebounding Award.

East girls hoops awards announced

Columbus East girls basketball held its postseason awards banquet.

Madelyn Poe was named Offensive MVP, Jenna Guse won Defensive MVP and Messiah Trapp won the Olympian Award.

Hauser names boys hoops award winners

At the Hauser boys basketball awards banquet, Taeshaun Tungate won the Offensive Award, Alex Cord won the Defensive Award and the Bob Carroll Mental Attitude Award, Ledger Gelfius won the 3-point Field Goal Award and Thompson Award, Gavin Keller won the Field Goal Award and Most Improved, Kameron Blair won the Free Throw Award and Rebounding Award, Stryker Gill won the Assist Award and Steal Award and Collin Buck won the Jet Award.

Jake Barriger, Jacob Bell, Jayden Blair, Kameron Blair, Buck, Patricio Casares, Alex Cord, Nolan Dailey, Tyler Deiwert, RJ Foster, Gelfius, Koelson Gernentz, Gill, Waylon Harper, Keller, Tishawn Lisby, Bill Miller, Grady Niccum, Camden Parrott, Olivia Pribble, Adrean Tungate and Jackson York all won the Academic Award.

Games postponed, rescheduled

Almost all of Tuesday and Wednesday’s athletic events involving area teams were postponed or canceled, and some have been rescheduled.

Columbus North has rescheduled its home boys golf match with Brownstown Central for Tuesday, its home softball game with Roncalli for April 12, its girls tennis match at Center Grove to April 24 and its home baseball game with East Central for May 1.

Columbus East has rescheduled its softball game at Brownstown Central for April 12 and its girls tennis match at Edinburgh for April 16.

Hauser has rescheduled its girls tennis match at Jennings County for Tuesday. Also, the Edinburgh at Hauser softball game scheduled for Friday has been moved to April 10.

No games or matches Monday

Due to the total solar eclipse that is supposed to move through south central Indiana in the afternoon on Monday, there are no games or matches scheduled in The Republic area.
