Duncan tied for 30th after opening-round 71

SAN ANTONIO — Tyler Duncan fired a 1-under-par 71 in Thursday’s opening round and is tied for 30th in the Valero Texas Open.

The Columbus North graduate shot 1-under 35 on the front nine and even-par 36 on the back at TPC San Antonio (Oaks Course). He had four bogeys and three birdies before finishing with an eagle on the par-5 No. 18.

Akshay Bhatia leads the tournament at 9-under 63. Justin Lower and Brendon Todd are tied for second, three shots back at 6-under 66.
