Applications open for special needs, senior grant funding

Nonprofit organizations in Bartholomew, Decatur, Jackson and Jennings counties that serve senior citizens, special needs populations and their families are eligible until May 17 to apply for grant funding through a dedicated program.

The Voelz, Reed, & Mount Foundation will offer grant awards averaging $500 to $1,000 each for projects and programs that have a positive impact on the lives of special needs populations, senior citizens and their families. Grant recipients will be announced in June.

The foundation has awarded nearly $14,000 since 2022 when the Columbus law firm partnered with Heritage Fund of Bartholomew County to establish the business foundation to give back to the communities where they do business and provide support for special needs populations, senior citizens and their families.

“We couldn’t be more happy about the impact of the Voelz, Reed, & Mount Foundation over the past two years. Establishing the foundation with Heritage Fund has connected us with wonderful organizations serving aging adults and helped us to give back to the communities where we do business,” said Lora Mount, Voelz, Reed, & Mount co-owner.

Jayme Zobrist, executive director of Just Friends Adult Day Services, said the organization is grateful for the grant support it received last year that helped fund a valuable pilot program for a group membership to the Columbus Propeller MakerSpace. “One participant told us, ‘I never thought I’d be able to make something like this with my own hands,’ and another person said, ‘I didn’t know I still had these skills!’ Because of this partnership, people who attend Just Friends have more opportunities to maintain their independence, increasing their quality of life,” Zobrist said.
