College sports notebook: Greenwell’s grand slams power Raiders past NKU

Julian Greenwell smacked two grand-slam home runs Sunday and went 4 for 5 with a double and eight RBIs to lead Wright State to a 16-11 Horizon League win at Northern Kentucky.

Greenwell, a fifth-year senior from Columbus East, went 2 for 5 with two doubles and an RBI in Saturday’s 15-14 loss in the first game of a doubleheader at NKU. He went 2 for 6 with a double and an RBI in a 12-9 second-game win.

On Tuesday, Greenwell went 1 for 1 with an RBI in a 22-21 loss to Miami in the Joe Nuxhall Classic in Cincinnati.

The Raiders (20-15, 10-5) will visit Ohio State on Tuesday.

Burnett earns save in Wagner win

NORTH EASTON, Mass. — Alec Burnett pitched a scoreless, hitless ninth inning Saturday to preserve Wagner’s 6-5 Northeast Conference win at Stonehill. He now ranks second in the NEC with four saves.

Burnett, a sixth-year senior from Columbus East, allowed one hit and no runs over the final 1 2/3 innings of Sunday’s 4-3 loss at Stonehill.

Gilley helps Sycamores topple Purdue

Cole Gilley pitched 1 2/3 innings of scoreless relief Tuesday in Indiana State’s 9-3 win at Purdue.

Gilley, a redshirt junior from Columbus East, allowed one hit. He struck out one and walked two.

The Sycamores (27-7) will visit Illinois State on Friday and Saturday.

Meyer notches victory for Aces

Jakob Meyer allowed two runs on four hits over the final two innings to pick up the win Saturday in Evansville’s 6-5 Missouri Valley Conference victory against Illinois State.

Meyer, a senior from Columbus North, pitched two perfect innings of relief with four strikeouts in Tuesday’s 15-5 win at Butler.

The Aces (18-17, 7-5) will visit Indiana on Tuesday.

East grads help lead Jackson to wins

Ethan Ianni allowed only three hits and struck out seven in 4 1/3 shutout innings, Harry Major went 2 for 4 with an RBI and Logan Christophel scored two runs Saturday, as the sophomores from Columbus East helped Jackson College to a 10-0 win against St. Clair County Community College in the first game of a doubleheader.

In the second game, Christophel went 2 for 2 with a triple, an RBI and two runs scored in another 10-0 victory. Major went 2 for 4 with an RBI.

McIntosh helps Hornets beat Auburn

Kyler McIntosh went 1 for 4 Tuesday in Alabama State’s 3-2 win at Auburn.

McIntosh, a junior from Columbus North, scored two runs in Saturday’s 9-4 SWAC loss to Bethune-Cookman. He started on the mound Sunday and allowed six run (five earned) on eight hits in 4 2/3 innings in a 14-11 loss vs. Bethune-Cookman.

The Hornets (16-17, 7-7) will visit Jacksonville State on Tuesday.

North grads power Franklin

FRANKLIN — Dyllan Redmon went 2 for 5 with a double and two RBIs, and Luke Harmon went 1 for 4 with a double Saturday in Franklin’s 14-7 Heartland Collegiate Athletic Conference win against Mount St. Joseph.

Redmon, a sophomore from Columbus North, went 1 for 2 in Sunday’s 13-6 loss to MSJ in the first game of a doubleheader. Harmon, a freshman from North, started on the mound and allowed four runs (three earned) on six hits and struck out seven in six innings.

In Sunday’s second game, Harmon went 1 for 1 with an RBI, and Redmon had a sacrifice fly-RBI in a 15-12 loss.

The Grizzlies (14-12, 5-8) will visit DePauw on Thursday.

Harmon helps Reivers to wins

Reese Harmon went 1 for 2 with an RBI Sunday in Iowa Western’s 12-1 win against Marshalltown Community College.

The Reviers (36-5) will play at Iowa Central Community College on Wednesday.

Smith takes second in shot at invitational

NORMAN, Okla. — Tucker Smith threw a career-best 18.95 meters (62 feet, 2 1/4 inches) to finish second in the shot put in Oklahoma’s John Jacobs Invitational.

Newell earns IC4A qualifying time in 800

CHARLOTTESVILLE, Va. — Matt Newell led Navy runners with a third-place finish in the 800 meters in the Virginia Grand Prix.

Stohr runs personal-best in 10,000

NASHVILLE — Lipscomb’s Andy Stohr finished 15th in the 10,000 meters in the Lipscomb Flames Invitational.

Rutan hits, pitches Colonels to wins

RICHMOND, Ky. — Maddi Rutan went 2 for 3 with a double and two RBIs and threw a six-hitter with six strikeouts Saturday in Eastern Kentucky’s 7-2 ASUN Conference win in the first game of a doubleheader against Austin Peay.

Rutan, a freshman from Columbus North, went 1 for 4 with an RBI and threw 2 1/3 perfect innings of relief to earn her 18th win of the season in a 4-3 win in the second game.

On Sunday, Rutan went 2 for 2 with two runs scored in an 11-3, five-inning win against Austin Peay.

The Colonels (32-5, 14-1) will visit Louisville on Tuesday.

Foster collects hits for Syracuse

Kenzie Foster went 3 for 5 Wednesday in Syracuse’s 2-1 win against Colgate.

Norman powers Knights to victories

Sierra Norman went 1 for 1 with a home run and two RBIs Sunday in Marian’s 11-1 win in the first game of a Crossroads League doubleheader at Goshen.

Lemmons records hits for Grenadiers

WEST TERRE HAUTE — Josie Lemmons went 1 for 2 Saturday in IU Southeast’s 6-0 win in the first game of a River States Conference doubleheader at Saint Mary-of-the-Woods.

Bailey King went 1 for 3 in a Calumet’s 13-4 first-game loss and 1 for 1 in an 8-7 second-game win in Wednesday’s doubleheader against St. Xavier (Illinois).

Wilson picks up doubles win for Purdue

CHAMPAIGN, Ill. — Ashlie Wilson teamed with Juana Larranaga to give Purdue its lone point in a 4-1 Big Ten women’s tennis loss at Illinois.

Wilson, a sophomore from Columbus North, and Larranaga beat Kasia Treiber and McKenna Schaefbauer 6-4 at No. 3 doubles. Wilson fell to Kida Ferrari 6-3, 6-2 at No. 6 singles.

The Boilermakers (11-9, 6-4) wrap up the regular season Friday at Indiana before traveling to Michigan for next week’s Big Ten Tournament.
