Visits to various community gardens including Columbus Municipal Airport, Hope FFA Community Garden and Garden City Church of Christ began at the Columbus community garden. Purdue Extension Agriculture Educator Kris Medic, assisted by a master gardener volunteer, led the visits.

Arvin Industries elected its first female director, Carolyn Woo, a professor of management and the dean of the College of Business at the University of Notre Dame.

Shirley Orr, Angie Andrews, Hermenegildo Salinas and Catherine McCracken were named first place winners in the four divisions of the spring poetry contest by the Columbus Poetry Club. Winning poems were published in “Potpourri,” The Republic’s poetry column.
