HOPE – While the permanent bins were removed two months ago, recycling will return to Hope for one day only this weekend.
Spring Cleanup Day in Hope will be from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday in the parking lot of the town’s utility office at 529 Mill St.
Beside traditional recyclable items, a limit of four tires per person will be accepted. Appliances, may be dropped in the utility office’s parking lot.
However, town manager Jason Eckart said tractor tires will not be accepted, as well as paint, oil and antifreeze.
For Hope residents who are unable to haul items to the utility office, they can schedule a pickup of trash or recyclables, according to an announcement from Main Street of Hope. Call 812-371-0635 to schedule a pickup.
A special arrangement has been made where scrap metal will be picked up and sold to the Kroot Corp. in Columbus, Eckart said. Proceeds from the sale will be used to pay for tire disposal, with any remaining funds turned over to the town’s Main Street organization, Eckart said.
If you miss Saturday’s event, there will be a larger, but similar event taking place from 8 a.m. to 3 p.m. on Friday, April 26 at the Columbus/Bartholomew Recycling Center, 720 S. Mapleton St.
In honor of Earth Day, the recycling center will have an amnesty day for hard to dispose of wastes. They will accept up to two refrigerant-containing appliances at no cost, up to two gas grill tanks at no cost, and up to four personal vehicle tires at no cost.
However, $20 will be charged for televisions and monitors.
