While the overall team competition wasn’t close, both the Columbus North and Columbus East boys and girls put together some of their best performances of the season in Thursday’s annual dual meet between the two schools.

The Bull Dog boys came away with both wins, taking the boys meet 101-30 and the girls meet 109.5-22.5.

“There’s 16 events in each gender, and we competed well in all of them,” North boys and girls coach Rick Sluder said. “We had a lot of winners tonight. I’m very proud of that.”

Those winners included one two-event winner on the boys side and three double-winners for the girls. Liam Milne won the boys 100-meter hurdles (15.62 seconds) and 300 hurdles (43.60).

Other individual winners for the Bull Dog boys were Wyatt Clark in the pole vault (12-6), Tucker Tower in the high jump (5-10), Drew Schiefer in the shot put (53-3 1/2), Draven Martinez in the 1,600 (4:31.93), Derek Arau-Ortiz in the 400 (51.25), Jace Works in the 800 (1:57.01) and Adam Reckers in the 3,200 (10:11.39). Trenton Turner tied for first in the long jump (17-4), and North swept the 4×800 (8:52.95), 4×100 (44.29) and 4×400 (3:27.46) relays.

For the Bull Dog girls, Emerson Chambers won the 100 hurdles (16.53) and 100 (12.98), Carys Glyn-Jones took the 1,600 (5:25.78) and 800 (2:16.48) and Ava Collier captured the 400 (1:01.50) and 200. Other individual winners were Kalie McCain in the pole vault (8-0), Avery Johnson in the high jump (5-1), Mariah Holt in the shot (34-4), Emilie Beaver in the discus (98-3), Natalie Rohm in the 300 hurdles (50.64) and Ainsley Sherlock in the 3,200 (11:55.17).

North also swept the 4×800 (10:30.87), 4×100 (51.14) and 4×400 (4:10.42) relays.

“The 100, we did fantastic on both sides,” Sluder said. “Emerson Chambers had a fantastic night. All of our male and female hurdlers were fantastic. Our 200 kids were fantastic. Our distance kids were lights-out. We were running (personal records) all night long in every event. Out of our six relays — three boys, three girls — we had four season-bests or right on it. We ran fantastic in the 4x400s, so I’m just really thrilled all the way through. They behaved like a very strong team tonight.”

Kadyn Johnson-Bey led the Olympian boys with wins in the 100 (11.41) and 200 (23.26). Jared Brooks took the discus (139-2), and Zach Foster tied for first in the long jump (17-4)

“We were very pleased,” East boys coach Jerone Wood said. “We had a lot of PRs today. We had a great effort from our guys, so we’re excited about what we did today. We’re getting PRs and competing every meet, and that’s all we ask for as coaches.”

Gabbie Meier was the lone event winner for the Olympian girls, taking the long jump with a leap of 15-5.

“We got pushed, and had a good effort,” East girls coach Kareem Ash said. “We’re still dealing a lot of injuries, but they did everything I expected of them. We had a lot of good performances tonight and had a lot of PRs from some of our girls, and that’s all I could ask for.”
