Prep sports notebook: P. Ferguson named coach for Futures Game; C. Ferguson picked for Student Advisory Committee

Columbus North boys basketball coach Paul Ferguson has been selected as an assistant coach for the Indiana South boys team for the 2024 Futures Games during Indiana All-Star week.

Ferguson is 123-86 in nine years with the Bull Dogs. He began his coaching career in Illinois and is 256-141 in 16 years overall as a high school coach.

The Futures Games will be held on June 3 at Hamilton Southeastern, with the girls starting at 6 p.m. and the boys at 7:30 p.m.

Ferguson, Hack named to committee

Columbus North boys basketball player Caleb Ferguson and Jennings County softball player Claire Hack were two of the 18 student-athletes selected to the 2024-25 IHSAA Student Advisory Committee.

The committee comprises of nine upcoming seniors and nine upcoming juniors.

Edinburgh senior wins award

Edinburgh senior three-sport athlete Kyah Streeval was one of 13 seniors selected by the IHSAA to receive the 2024 C. Eugene Cato Memorial Scholarship.

Streeval, who plays volleyball, basketball and softball for the Lancers, will receive a $2,500 scholarship and be recognized at this year’s inaugural IHSAA Foundation Impact Awards at Gridiron Hall, within the Indianapolis Colts Indiana Farm Bureau Football Center, on May 7.

East girls soccer to hold callout meeting

The Columbus East girls soccer program will have a callout meeting on at 6:30 p.m. Monday in the school’s cafeteria.

All players interested in playing next year and their parents are invited and encouraged to attend. Doors 15 and T should be unlocked and available to enter. Anyone with questions should contact coach Ilya Schwartzman through the school’s athletic department at 812-376-4365.

North girls hoops to hold youth camp

Columbus North girls basketball will hold its summer youth camp from May 28 to 31 at North High School.

Camp will be from 1 to 3 p.m. for incoming fifth-through-eighth-graders, with a cost of $75, and 3:30 to 5 p.m. for incoming second-through-fourth-graders, with a cost of $70. Campers will be instructed by North coach Brett White and his staff, along with college and high school players.
