Southbound I-65 lanes closed for accident involving semis at the 33 mile marker

AUSTIN — I-65 southbound north of Scottsburg remains closed after an accident involving three semis at the 33 mile marker, state police said.

Jennings Township first reponders said two people died in the accident and one person was transported by helicopter to the hospital. The accident occurred around midnight last night.

There was a fire after the collision according to Indiana State Police.

Traffic was being diverted off Exit 34 near Austin onto U.S. 31 southbound. Huls says anyone traveling toward Louisville should seek alternate routes.

Assisting at the scene with Scottsburg Fire and the following departments called for water and manpower: Finley, Johnson, Vienna, Monroe, Brownstown & Jackson-Washington Fire. Also assisting was Scott County EMA, Austin PD, Scottsburg PD, Scott County Sheriff’s Department, Scott County Coroner, IDEM, INDOT, Indiana State Police, Furnish Towing & Goodin’s Wrecker.
