North JV track competes in varsity invite

SHELBYVILLE — With the Conference Indiana meet set for Friday, Columbus North sent mostly JV athletes to compete against varsity track and field teams Thursday in Shelbyville’s Golden Bear Invitational and came away with third-place girls and fourth-place boys finishes.

Cathedral won the girls meet with 91 points to 83 for Seymour and 64 for the Bull Dogs. Seymour edged Cathedral 106-105 to win the boys meet, while Madison slipped past North 45-43 for third.

Emma Lowther won the 1,600 meters (5 minutes, 35.88 seconds) and finished second in the 800 (2:35.47), and Wendy Zhong took the 3,200 (12:00.35) to lead the Bull Dog girls. Katie Frazier, Lowther, Rebecca Simon and Kenzie Meyer captured the 4×800 relay (10:41.19).

Also for the North girls, Kennedy Gallentine was second in the shot put (31 feet, 2 inches) and third in the discus (89-8), and Kallie McCain finished second in the 100 hurdles (17.36).

For the boys, Cole Stevens (4:36.75) and Sam Steinmetz went 1-2 in the 1,600 (4:38.00), and Adam Reckers (9:45.53) and Denton Sluder (9:49.90) went 1-2 in the 3,200.
