Taylorsville suspect arrested in fatal Edinburgh stabbing, faces preliminary murder charge

EDINBURGH — A Taylorsville man was arrested following a stabbing early Monday morning in Edinburgh.

Police officers responded to the report of a stabbing at about 12:22 a.m. Monday in the 6400 block of E. State Road 252. Upon arrival, officers located a white male with stab wounds. Officers and Edinburgh medics attempted life-saving efforts at the scene but he was unable to be revived, said Doyne Little, Edinburgh police chief.

The person stabbed is identified as Michael Gene Adair, 48, of Edinburgh.

A person of interest, identified as 34-year-old Steven Garvin, of Taylorsville, was detained at the scene for questioning. Garvin was arrested on a preliminary charge of murder at about 4:50 a.m., according to a Johnson County Sheriff’s Office booking report.

Edinburgh Police is working with the Johnson County Prosecutor’s Office regarding formal charges for this incident, Little said. Police are still trying to piece together what occurred, so more information is not available at this time, he said.
