John Hogan, former chancellor of the Columbus/Franklin region of Ivy Tech and associate vice president for student affairs and placement was named the president of National Park Community College in Arkansas.

1999

Richards Elementary School students made quilts to send to children in refugee camps near Kosovo. The students helped with tracing, cutting and sewing of about 20 yards of fabric, while parents helped sort material, iron and piece quilt blocks.

1974

Operation Big Broom, a citywide clean up effort coordinated by the Metropolitan Exchange Club, swept up a total of 115 loads of trash over the span of two days. Four trucks were donated from the City of Columbus, two from the parks department, one from the county highway department, and one each from seven construction and electric companies.
