Peck to challenge Houchin in 9th District

Democrat Tim Peck won a primary challenge and will face incumbent U.S. Rep. Erin Houchin, R-Salem, in November’s race for Indiana’s 9th Congressional District. Houchin also fended off a Republican primary challenger Tuesday.

The Associated Press called both primary races for Peck and Houchin shortly after 7 p.m. Houchin turned back a primary challenge from from Hugh Doty and Peck defeated Democratic challenger D. Liam Dorris.

Peck, a tech entrepreneur from New Washington, will challenge Houchin, a former Indiana state senator who is completing her first term in Congress.

In early results in Bartholomew County, Houchin carried more than 78% of the vote on the Republican side and Peck led with more than 73% of Democratic support.

Indiana’s 9th US Congressional District covers southeastern Indiana and includes the southern portion of Bartholomew County as well as all of Brown, Decatur, Jackson and Jennings counties.
