The local branch of the Indiana Bureau of Motor Vehicles, 4445 Ray Boll Blvd., will have extended hours today from 6 a.m. to 6 p.m. for people who need driver’s licenses or identification cards to vote.

For questions about ID requirements, voters can call the Bartholomew County Clerk’s Office at 812-379-1604 or go to indianavoters.in.gov.

How primary elections work

Because it is a primary, voters must select the Republican ballot or Democratic ballot. It is not possible to vote for candidates in both parties.

The winners of today’s primary races will receive the nomination from their respective parties to run in the general election this fall.

What’s at stake?

The Democratic and Republican nominations for several federal, state and local offices are up for grabs in today’s election, including governor, U.S. Senate, Indiana’s 6th Congressional District, Indiana’s 9th Congressional District, the Indiana House of Representatives, among other offices.

Locally, party nominations for Bartholomew County Commissioners and Bartholomew County Council also will be decided in today’s election.
