Cougars slip past Hauser for MHC boys track title

The South Decatur boys track team won the Mid-Hoosier Conference title on Thursday.,

EDINBURGH — South Decatur edged Hauser by 3 1/2 points for the boys title at Thursday’s Mid-Hoosier Conference track and field meet.

The Cougar boys scored 130 points to 126.5 for the Jets. Edinburgh finished seventh with 21 points.

North Decatur won the girls meet with 144 points to 135 for runner-up South Decatur. Hauser took fourth with 76, and Edinburgh was fifth with 36.

McKinley Shook led the South Decatur boys with wins in the 110-meter hurdles (16.41 seconds) and 300 hurdles (45.48) and tied for first in the high jump (5 feet, 10 inches). Campbell Johannigman finished second in the 110 hurdles (19.12), Owen Arreola took second in the 400 (54.22) and the Cougars were second in the 4×100 (48.75) and 4×400 (3:41.90) relays.

Winners for Hauser were Luke Bruner in the discus (144- 1/2), Sam Taylor in the 100 (11.56), Colin Kistler in the 3,200 (10:41.87) and the Jets 4×800 relay (9:09.69). Bruner also finished second in the shot put (40-0), Kistler took second in the 1,600 (4:53.61), Adrean Tungate place second in the 800 (2:17.74) and Nolan Dailey was second in the 3,200 (10:42.16).

Edinburgh’s Jackson Hartwell won the long jump (20-8 3/4).

For the girls, South Decatur’s Madisyn Danforth won the long jump (16-3 1/4), and 200 (27.91). Brayley Sundal won the 400 (1:09.09) and finished second in the 100 (13.56), Zoe Meer placed second in the shot (30-6) and discus (86-6 1/2), Kiley Best took second in the 100 hurdles (17.60), and the Cougars won the 4×100 (53.50) and 4×400 (4:55.04) relays.

Hauser won the 4×800 relay (11:41.89) and finished second in the 4×400 relay (4:34.95).

Edinburgh’s Kenna Streeval set a school record in winning the 100 (13.37). Streeval also finished second in the 200 (28.18).
