Mary Louise Baldwin, 84, of Columbus, IN passed from this life peacefully on Wednesday, May 15th, 2024 at Our Hospice of South Central Indiana.

A visitation for Mary Louise Baldwin will be held Monday, May 20th, 2024 from 4:00 pm-7:00 pm, at Sawyer Pickett Funeral and Cremation Service in North Vernon, IN. Rev. Marcus Speer will conduct a private family graveside service to follow on Tuesday, May 21st, 2024.

Mary Lou was born on December 21, 1939 in Jennings County to the late Louis Carl Gearries Sr. and Mary Hazel Biehle. Mary Lou was the oldest of seven children, all having nicknames for one another, Mary Lou was commonly known as “Pug”.

On June 22, 2010 she married Marvin Edward Baldwin and together they traveled the world, some of their favorite destinations were; Hawaii, New Zealand, Tahiti, Costa Rica, and Easter Island. They also enjoyed visiting various cities to view a solar eclipse. Mary Lou and Marvin spent many winters in Florida as snow-birds enjoying the Florida sunshine. Mary Lou and Marvin were truly soulmates and created many memories together over the years.

Mary Lou was employed at Cummins Engine Company for over 30 years where she held various positions throughout her employment. She had been retired for over 30 years and had spent her retirement enjoying her winters in Florida , where she always looked forward to socializing with the “happy-hour gang”. In her early years, Mary Lou loved spending time at the Ohio River, camping, boating, and water skiing, as well as spending time with her river family. She always enjoyed clogging, dancing, riding her bicycle, gardening, traveling with her husband Marvin, and spending time outdoors.

Surviving with her husband of 13 years, Marvin Baldwin, is her son Dennis Richardson of Foster City, CA. Her sisters Martha Eden of Anderson, IN, Starlene (Dan) Ross and Julie Gearries, both of North Vernon, IN and Donna (Joe) Lunsford of Richmond, TX. Mary was also a very proud grandmother to 3 grandsons; Seth (Shana) Richardson, Aaron (Aeriel) Richardson, and Evan Richardson, all of Columbus, IN. Her grandsons brought so much joy to her life, and her fierce love for them was obvious. Mary Lou also known as “Grandma Lou Lou” is also survived by her two adorable great-granddaughters Claire Elizabeth Richardson and Madison Jean Richardson both of Columbus, IN.

She is also survived by her extended family Riq (Mary) Baldwin, Robin (Mark) Walderhaug and Ron (Elaine) Baldwin.

Mary Lou was preceded in death by late husband John Wilson Richardson on March 12, 2001, her parents, twin baby brothers, brother Louis Carl Gearries Jr., and sister Ruth Skelton.
