Columbus East High School juniors pull and tug but are pulled into a blast of water as they lose a tug-of-war event to East seniors in May 21, 1974’s “fun day” at the school’s football field.

2014

Columbus North won the Franklin Sectional girls track meet, giving them their third consecutive sectional championship win. Senior Mackenzie Caldwell defended her sectional titles in the 1,600 and 3,200 meters, running 5 minutes, 4.24 seconds and 11:02:32.

1999

Tipton Lakes Athletic Club took part in National Senior Health and Fitness Day by hosting free senior-related health and fitness activities, including Round Robin tennis and a walk to the Tipton Lakes Marina. The event was also part of Older Americans Month and National Physical Fitness and Sports Month celebrations.

1974

Two Columbus high school students and one from Hope were selected to attend the Indiana University Journalism Institute in Bloomington with scholarships provided by The Republic. Michael Fischer from Columbus North, Anne Coveney from Columbus East, and Cynthia Deiwert from Hauser were enrolled in the News Workshop division of the institute.
